The Daytime Emmy Awards are administered by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. They honor, as expected, excellence in daytime television programming. An Emmy is considered the television equivalent of the Academy Award, and there are multiple ceremonies throughout the year. In addition to the Daytime Emmys, there are the Primetime Emmy Awards, International Emmys, Sports Emmys, News & Documentary Emmys, Technology & Engineering Emmys, and International Emmys, as well as various regional Emmy ceremonies. The Daytime and Primetime ceremonies are the only ones that are televised.
Yesterday the 2012 Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The soap opera General Hospital took home most of the top awards, and Susan Lucci gave a moving tribute to the show All My Children — a soap that was cancelled last season after 41 years on the air. Lucci had been with the show from the beginning, in 1970. The full list of winners is available from Deadline.
The actor with the most Daytime Emmys is Anthony Geary of General Hospital, with seven. The record wins for a show is 30, held by Jeopardy!
